Job overview

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic teacher of PE to join our small but dynamic PE and Sports department based at Bellerbys College in Brighton. The successful applicant will have a passion for a range of sports and activities and will display the ability to encourage, enthuse and engage GCSE students Y10-Y11 to establish serious work habits by setting high standards.

The role will deliver 27 lessons of Physical Education teaching each week, with a total of 37.5 working hours spread across 6 days:

  • Monday: 8.45am to 5.15pm (7.5 hours)
  • Tuesday: 8.45am to 5.15pm (7.5 hours)
  • Wednesday: 8.45am – 1.45pm (5 hours)
  • Thursday: 8.45am to 5.15pm (7.5 hours)
  • Friday: 12.15pm to 5.15pm (5 hours)
  • Saturday: 1pm to 6pm (5 hours)

Key responsibilities

  • Write appropriately stimulating and challenging Schemes of Work for PE.
  • Effective delivery of sports including but not exclusively football, basketball, badminton and volleyball.
  • Accurately assess student achievement in a variety of sport by keeping records, writing academic reports and ensuring progress can be made termly and annually.
  • Using educational technology in teaching.
  • Ensure students have access to appropriate equipment and kit, liaising with Head of PE as necessary.
  • Ensure a punctual start and finish of classes allowing for transport time where necessary.
  • Drive a school minibus to transport students to offsite facilities.
  • Set a good example to students in terms of appropriate dress, standards of punctuality and attendance.
  • Demonstrate a high level of motivation and enthusiasm for teaching.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and training.
  • Be proactive in taking responsibility for matters relating to health & safety.
  • Undertake professional duties that may be reasonable assigned (eg cover, invigilation etc.)

Experience

  • Experience teaching PE in other educational environments essential
  • Relevant qualification in Physical Education essential
  • Driving licence essential
  • Teaching qualification desirable but not essential
