Job overview

We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic sessional teachers of English to teach English to non-native students. The various courses in the college either prepare students to enter UK Universities, or prepare students for their next courses (e.g. Pre-GCSE to IGCSE).The feeder courses focus on raising the level of students’ general English (EFL), and the university preparatory courses focus on raising the level of students’ academic English (EAP) and IELTS grades.

The successful candidate must have a good undergraduate degree in English related subject. A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential.

Key responsibilities

  • Write appropriately stimulating and challenging Schemes of English
  • Effective delivery of courses
  • Ensuring students’ notes are appropriate and well-organised
  • Marking student work and returning within agreed deadlines
  • Marking exams and/or coursework and accurately recording
  • Furnish detailed comments for UCAS applications when requested
  • Liaising with the Head of Faculty, Programme Manager & Exams Officer as appropriate to make exam entries for students taught
  • Writing academic reports as required
  • Using educational technology in teaching, including interactive whiteboard with StudySmart
  • Attend regular Faculty and staff meetings, and events
  • Be proactive in taking responsibility for matters relating to health & safety
  • Undertake professional duties that may be reasonable assigned (eg cover, invigilation etc.)
  • Keep accurate daily online registers.
  • Tutor duties may be required – dependent on role and college (pastoral and HE guidance pending term and group)
  • Other related activities as may be reasonably requested by the Head of Subject or Head of Faculty

Experience

  • Good first degree in English or related subject.
  • CELTA
  • DELTA or Masters is preferred
  • General English Language teaching experience
