Job overview

We are seeking a Pre and In Sessional English Co-ordinator to co-ordinate pre-sessional and in-session English provision comprising Study Group’s English Language Pre-sessional Programme (ELPP) and English for Pre-Masters programme (EPM) and the Pre-sessional English Language Programme (PELP) and In-sessional English Support programme (IESP) delivered by the International Study Centre (ISC) on behalf of Lancaster University.

The successful candidate will enjoy working with international students and staff, be performance driven with a commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship coupled with high standards of integrity and honesty with the ability to facilitate leadership by example. The post holder will take responsibility for the annual review and academic development of modules and will be expected to teach between 5-15 hours per week depending on programme recruitment volumes and co-ordination load at different stages of the academic year.

Key responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate the recruitment process for the pre-sessional fixed term contract staff engaged specifically for the PELP provision.
  • Monitor pre-sessional or in-sessional staff performance and provide/facilitate a variety of support to address any issues identified.
  • Develop delivery schedules and timetables that meet the programme requirements ensuring a high quality student experience, excellent learning and teaching and efficient processes.
  • In conjunction with the Head of English and Head of Curriculum and Progression, plan and implement an engaging and effective induction process for staff and students.
  • Support the development of high quality learning materials, including online, to accelerate learning and progress.
  • Use quality assurance processes to audit and moderate work schemes, learning materials, formative and summative assessment, ensuring consistency and equity in relation to student experience.
  • Lead on allocating coursework and exam marking and moderation in accordance with tutor employment status and experience.

Experience and qualification

  • Minimum Bachelor degree and  a post graduate qualification within English/linguistics Successful delivery of English language modules
  • Excellent decision making, interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to communicate issues to a wide audience including students, academic staff, HEI, Study Group Departments and other stakeholders
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate quantitative and qualitative information to inform and direct action planning
  • Strong relationship management skills and capacity to working across, up and down an organisation as well as with external partners and stakeholders
  • A sound understanding of UK higher education and English language provision
