Learning & Activity Centre (LAC) Manager

Job Purpose:

Responsibility for delivering an excellent student experience from the Learning & Activity Centre  (LAC)

This post is 37.5 hours per week. This post is non residential. Working hours may extend after 5pm at peak times. This post includes working one day each weekend to meet the needs of the service.

Key Responsibilities:

General Management

  • Deliver a credible, safe, professional service to all stakeholders
  • Manage staff including recruitment and selection, training, performance management, cover, absence, pay claims, appraisal, training and development effectively and according to policy and procedure
  • Oversee the budgets, delivery, resources and operations of the team and its services including promotion and review of the service with transparency and openness. Produce reports and data identifying opportunities and challenges, manage resources efficiently and effectively
  • Manage the delivery of services to two brands (Bellerbys /Embassy), understanding differentiation and need. Manage the deliverables to the expectation of Service Level Agreement and Inspection requirements of the brands within budget and resources
  • Manage change and improve quality whilst delivering value for money and increasing participation in the services, ensuring outcomes meet inspection criteria and student needs
  • Produce reports, data, feedback, usage, participation, evaluation and impact measures for the service, establishing effective procedures and systems to support the work of the LAC
  • Undertake general administrative work and support, carrying  out other reasonable tasks as requested and playing a key role in the wider Directorate and wider College
  • Work effectively with staff, other peers, managers and central services to develop the student experience

Curriculum

  • Ensure a programme of relevant workshops and activities are available to support the skills required to meet the needs of the curriculum across the broad range of levels/programmes taught in the centre and to prepare students for university
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Programme Managers, SEN and Enrichment leads.
  •  Deliver services which contribute directly to successful inspection outcomes by meeting and exceeding the criteria and developing skills for learning
  •  Develop resources in conjunction with the academic team which supports the curriculum

The Learning & Activity Centre 

  • Coordinate the services, activities, events, resources, budget and staffing of the Learning & Activity Centre (LAC) ensuring sufficient staff cover exists during opening hours and for activities/events
  •  Maintain a professional, safe, clean and welcoming environment , supporting students using the area including the Resources, IT and printing/copying facilities and operating the mail services
  • Manage the HERITAGE library system for stock management, acquisition, subscriptions, issues and returns and producing and analysing  reports
  • Develop the LAC and its range of services and uses in the curriculum and beyond classes to support PHSE, RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) and the development of students in a holistic manner

Student Led Activities

  • Support the Student Board of Directors and their work
  • Support students in organising and running events including Building Futures Charity Events, International Evenings and Graduation celebrations
  • Support students to develop and run their own clubs
  • Develop learner engagement opportunities, feedback and participation such as in activities, events and workshops through learners promotion of the services

Events, Activities and Social Media

  • Manage, organise, promote and deliver a programme of relevant, cost effective, impactful events and activities in the LAC to support information literacy, learning, enjoyment and achievement against curriculum, inspection and students’ personal requirements
  • Manage, coordinate, promote and deliver a programme of activities (on and offsite) for the under 18 year old boarders, supporting the team and providing cover at key times.
  • Manage, coordinate, promote and deliver a programme of activities (on/offsite) for Bellerby and Embassy students, supporting the team and providing cover at key times and to meet group needs during the summer months
  • Create and update social media feeds and marketing materials for the College and coordinate and update the Study Smart pages for the Directorate
