Job overview

We are seeking to recruit a General Catering Assistant to join our Catering Team at Bellerbys College in Brighton. This role will assist with the running of the onsite college shop and other general catering services. The successful candidate will be a team player, a confident communicator, accurate with good attention to detail coupled with the ability to work under pressure and manage their own work load.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise the college common room in accordance with our Safeguarding policy
  • Operate the cashless till
  • Stack shelves and keep them tidy and arranged in order according to our FIFO policy
  • To undertake any general duties including assisting the Front of House Team, counter service, general cleaning or any other tasks as required
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness (clean as you go) complying with legislation and standards set by the Catering Department. Use cleaning products in accordance with COSHH training and procedures
  • Reporting to Supervisor in charge any food wastage and recording this on daily wastage sheet
  • Adhering to the FIFO policy when using and storing products ensuring that any items are stored in their correct place, labelled and sealed according to company HACCP policy
  • To undertake any function or hospitality duties as and when required
  • Ensure high levels of personal hygiene are kept to at all times in accordance with the company hygiene policies.


  • 1 year experience in a busy catering environment
  • Experience in working in Customer service
  • Some basic product knowledge
  • Food Safety knowledge, able to apply to working practices
  • Health & Safety awareness
  • High standard of professional conduct
