Durham University International Study Centre

Our Durham University Study Centre is the newest to the Study Group network, recently opening its doors in September last year. Based in the stunning Queens Campus, it is now a fully functional centre full of talent students from across the globe. The centre runs a varied curriculum across the International Foundation, and the Pre-Masters programme.

Key Responsibilities 

This is a key role within this centre! Reporting directly to the Head of Centre this position will provide operational leadership to the team responsible for designing and delivering Durham University International Study Centre’s programmes and student experience; and to lead the relationship with the partner university in respect of operational management matters. See the responsibilities below:

  • Lead and motivate all staff with particular focus on the Welfare & Safeguarding Team and Professional Services to contribute to ensuring the best possible student outcomes and student experience.
  • Contribute to developing, communicating and enacting the strategy and priorities for the College.
  • Contribute towards the effective performance management of direct reports, including: setting personal objectives and KPIs; regularly reviewing performance of direct reports; and conducting formal performance reviews according to company policy and procedures.
  • Facilitate, encourage and support staff to participate in regular personal development activity.
  • Recruit new staff as required according to Study Group policies and procedures.
  • Actively lead the centres Senior Management Team.
  • Plan and undertake regular personal development as agreed with Head of Centre.
  • Represent the College on key joint committees and in the absence of the Head of Centre deputise on the strategic groups.

Experience Required

We are looking for an experienced leader with management experience in a teaching and learning environment. As this is an operational role, it is essential that the right candidate has experience managing operation staff e.g. Professional Services, Admin teams, Student Support, Welfare and Safeguarding. Teaching experience would be highly desirable, ideally in Higher or Further Education. As well as being a new centre, Durham is a fast paced environment so we are looking for someone that can lead and facilitate change. Experience in teaching international students will only add value to this role however this is not essential. The relationship with our partner is essential to the successful running of the centre, so experience partnership working or partnership management would be beneficial.
