Job overview

Study Group are looking for a highly experienced Workplace Health & Safety (WHSS) Specialist A/NZ. Reporting to the HR Director A/NZ, the WHSS will work closely & collaboratively with SGA executive, senior leaders, International Study Centers & Charles Sturt University key stakeholders, and relevant Global roles (i.e. risk, audit, legal) to ensure the Work Health and Safety Management System, Framework & Outcomes, developed in consultation with Lane Safety Systems, is implemented according to agreed timeframes and standards, and reporting against the same.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive improvements in safety performance
  • Assume the role of subject matter expert for all aspects of the Workplace Health and Safety Management System program including participation in audits
  • Develop appropriate relationships with Workcover/Worksafe, auditors and professional associations to maintain active working relationships and keep abreast of industry trends and regulatory requirements
  • Lead, drive and enable WHS Project meetings and provide insight and support for Safety Management System requirements.
  • Establish relationships with peers and / or senior management in areas affected by the frameworks, policies or procedures, and obtain appropriate input into and support for on-going document development
  • Establish and monitor effective consultation processes within the Company to meet legislative requirements
  • Develop and implement plans to address WHS Safety Management System non-conformances identified through audit outcomes
  • Provide WHS risk policy advice consistent with risk management principles and practices and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Review, develop and implement Safety Management Systems including Framework, Policies and Procedures ensuring alignment with organisational strategy and compliance with legislative and self-insurance requirements
  • Accountable and responsible for all Workers Compensation, RTW (return to work) and rehabilitation strategies, advice, support, reports and outcomes
  • Coaching and mentoring of the A/NZ HR and Senior Management team regarding WHS and obligations on the same
  • Other duties as required/directed

Capabilities/Experience

  • Post graduate qualifications in WHS, auditing and incident investigations
  • Experience in WHS training design, development, facilitation and assessment
  • Qualifications &/or material and demonstrated experience in project management
  • Significant experience as a safety professional with a thorough understanding of safety principles and International safety standards ISO9001 & AS/NZ 4801 standards
  • Demonstrated experience in the implementation and management of Safety Management systems, plans, policies and frameworks
  • Proven experience in project management including the ability to lead, manage & influence other members of the business (especially context of a Global matrix structure)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant WHS legislation, Codes of Practice and standards
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated successful change leadership/management experience
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with an ability to prepare management/Board reports and other WHS documentation
  • Strong interpersonal skills including an ability to engage appropriately with staff at all levels of the organisation resulting in cultural change where WHS responsibilities become an integral part of managing a business
  • Data mindset and approach/experience and demonstrated intermediate computer skills with the ability to produce timely and accurate reports and metrics
  • Demonstrated strategic and lateral thinking with the ability to identify, analyse and interpret complex data and develop appropriate WHS strategies to meet the requirements of the business
  • Keen understanding of & experience with auditing, assurance and compliance, as well as risk management principles
  • Strong knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety and the ability to consult and deliver results in a highly regulated, complex, & multi-site environment
