Legal Counsel

This role will assist the ANZ Senior Legal Counsel, to provide legal advice and guidance in respect of the organisation’s commercial contracts and related commercial issues and in relation to all laws and regulatory compliance requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and timely assistance to the ANZ Senior Legal Counsel and Group General Counsel on a variety of legal, governance and commercial matters.
  • Carry out legal research with respect to generic issues but in particular in respect of educational and regulatory compliance matters.
  • As required, liaise with external law firms and functions of the business to advise on generic issues.
  • Assist to review historic practices including initiating discovery type exercises, collating results and undertaking forensic review and analysis.

Required qualifications and training

  • Law degree, graduate diploma of legal practise , admitted as a legal practioner or barrister.
  • At least 4 years experience in private practice law firm or in an in-house legal team.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with proven ability to liaise, consult and negotiate with key stakeholders and colleagues
  • High-level organisation skills – ability to prioritise work requirements and ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated initiative and attention to detail in relation to drafting and research skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, remain commercially focused and upbeat.
