Commercial Manager

The Commercial Manager is responsible for leading effective business partnering with Study Group’s University partnerships across Australia and New Zealand, and managing the financial planning and analysis and management reporting activity as it pertains to those partnerships. Fundamental to success in this role is the ability to reengineer processes, develop strong relationships with business owners and implement a high performing team culture.

Key responsibilities

Business Partnering and Relationship Management

  • As the key access point for the business into Finance, key to this role is relationship building, acting as a trusted advisor for partners within the business, and leveraging the wider Finance function to ensure standardisation, efficiency and effectiveness of interactions between the business and Finance.
  • Report to the business to keep stakeholders well informed of performance relative to budget and targets.
  • Business case financial evaluation and assessing financial implications of new initiatives (new products, sales and marketing activities).
  • Provide strategic insight and decision support.
  • Liaise with Sales monthly to track current pipeline and ensure accuracy of revenue forecasts
  • Ensure awareness of and incorporate industry benchmarking, competitor analysis, market trends, macro factors impacting business performance.
  • Manage relationships with Heads of Colleges and their teams, and internally with the Managing Director and Executive Leadership Team, Sales and Marketing Directors, HR and IT functions, the wider ANZ Finance team (Financial Control & reporting, other shared services functions), the Sales & Marketing Finance team in Singapore, and the
  • Group Finance team in the UK.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead the delivery of a timely, accurate and effective monthly rolling forecast process for the University partnerships, incorporating the annual budget for consolidation with the Group for approval by the Corporate Board.
  • Ensure the delivery and quality of analysis, reports, benchmarking, KPI identification and measurement, and historical trends to the business in order to enable proactive decision making.
  • Drive improved team capability, financial models and processes to deliver enhanced commercial analysis across the business.
  • Provide commercial expertise in the preparation of reporting and operational presentations to Study Group Head Office and Executive Leadership Team.
  • Continuous improvement – identify and implement improvements to the planning process in striving towards best practise.

Management Reporting

  • Accountable for preparation and communication of high quality and timely management accounts, including variance analysis and communication to stakeholders.
  • Work closely with financial control team to validate actual numbers reported.
  • Lead the preparation of KPI reporting for monthly reports and Partner Development Plan reviews.
  • Drive improved team capability and processes to deliver enhanced reporting processes.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor Degree in Commerce or Business (accounting required)
  • CA/CPA qualifications, or equivalent
  • Managing a business partnership relationship
  • Reengineering business processes and implementing change
  • Extensive experience in financial management, planning or equivalent
  • Managing financial planning, budgets and forecasts of a high growth organisation
  • Managing professional staff, team building, leadership and development
  • Experience in building relationships with and influencing colleagues in an international matrix organisation is essential
  • Analytical strength, the ability to develop insight from financial and non-financial data
  • Financial modelling skills - able to work with large volumes of data
  • Attention to detail, problem solving ability and adaptable
