Academic Governance Officer

Role Type: Contract to mid Dec, full time, based in Sydney.
Salary Range
: Approx. $70,000 per annum (+ superannuation)

Key responsibilities

  • Providing a comprehensive secretariat service that effectively supports the conduct of a large case load of Board/Committee meetings, including preparation of meeting agenda, thorough minute taking, and assisting with the implementation of meeting resolutions.
  • Accurately maintaining Governance and Committee information including registers, policies, procedures and associated documents including those required under legislation.
  • Contributing to the successful operation of the Academic Quality Assurance and Governance Office through the application of professional project coordination skills; student performance, survey and quality indicators data collation and reporting skills; administrative support skills; and stakeholder liaison/communication skills.

Required qualifications and training

  • Relevant secretariat servicing experience
  • Demonstrated experience in providing Board and/or committee secretariat services in a tertiary education or equivalent public/private sector setting, including minute taking.
  • Experience in maintaining governance and committee information including registers, policies, procedures and associated documents including those required under legislation.
  • Experience in the preparation of business reports and other written documentation.
  • Experience in drafting organisational policy and procedures.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced skills with software packages, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet, email, calendar and electronic document management systems.
  • Ability to coordinate and undertake research and prepare correspondence, statistical and qualitative reports, and other written documentation.
  • Ability to apply a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity to a range of business matters.
  • Advanced organisation and self-management skills including the ability to effectively prioritise duties to meet deadlines, with professionalism and maintain consistent high standards.
  • Ability to work effectively individually and as a member of a geographically dispersed team.
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflict constructively, work in a tactful and diplomatic manner and respond appropriately when dealing with sensitive matters.
  • General understanding of the role and function of governance and committee processes in a highly regulated organisational context.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to High School, Foundation, ELICOS, Higher Education and/or CRICOS education providers.
  • To be eligible for consideration, you must already possess full work rights for Australia.
