Job overview

Study Group’s International Study Center (ISC) is seeking ESL adjunct instructors to teach non-credit English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses in the areas of Reading, Writing, Grammar and Academic Skills, Listening/Speaking, and Study Skills in an intensive English program; and in courses such as College Life, Critical Thinking, and US Culture. Students are enrolled in a university pathway program at our Chicago/Millennium Park location, with the Fall Semester courses beginning on 8/26/2019 and ending on 12/06/2019. The term will be preceded by faculty orientation and mentoring the week of August 19, 2019, and followed by a final examination period of December 9-13, 2019. All courses take place during the day, Monday through Friday, meeting for a total of 4.5 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

  • To plan and execute EAP courses in reading, writing, grammar, academic and study skills across an intensive English program.
  • To support and educate your students to an agreed standard.
  • To report and update the ISC Director on a regular basis.
  • To teach, support and communicate with International students according to Study Group guidelines.

Experience

  • 3 years of experience teaching academic ESL to adults.
  • Master’s degree in TESOL, TESL, Linguistics, or a closely related field.
  • Specialist qualifications in the area of English language teaching to speakers of other languages.
  • Substantial previous experience in teaching college level ESL to international students in the US or elsewhere.
