Mei’s story shows how Study Group changes the lives of ambitious students from around the world
Study Group has been preparing international students for great things since 1997. Our staff develop student’s existing talents through a combination of specialist English language preparation, study skills and subject-specific teaching. Study Group graduates are confident, capable, and ready for global careers.
Mei’s dream of working in the creative industries became a reality due to support from Study Group staff at Bellerbys College and Sussex University International Study Centre.
‘Ever since I was little I’d dreamt of doing something creative’
Mei grew up in Hong Kong, always curious about the western world. Her creative flair existed from childhood but she wasn't sure how she could harness it to build a career.
After losing her father at 18, Mei decided to try something new. She moved to the UK in 2011 to study at Bellerbys College, where she completed a Humanities Foundation programme.
‘Study Group nurtured and supported me’
Bellerbys Colleges in Brighton, London, and Cambridge have an international reputation for providing the highest standards in university preparation. State-of-the-art teaching facilities offer accredited courses from accelerated GCSEs and A Levels, to Foundation and English language preparation courses for university - providing progression into over 70 top UK universities. Mei chose Bellerbys because of its reputation for student support.
When she first arrived in the UK, Mei was overwhelmed by the language barrier, and embarrassed that she couldn't communicate properly. Study Group staff built confidence in her English skills, and Mei started to immerse herself in everything that was on offer at Bellerbys.
After completing her programme at Bellerbys, Mei joined the International Study Centre at the University of Sussex to study an International Foundation Year in Business, Media and Social Studies. She then went on to complete her BA in Media and Communications.
‘Your destiny is determined by the choices you make’
On completing her studies, Mei chose to stay in the UK, which had become a second home. She began her career with a series of roles in sales, marketing and digital, and now works for a creative agency in Brighton as a Visual Content Producer. Mei’s achievements are a testament to her hard work, and to the encouragement of Study Group staff.
