Royal Holloway, University of London and Study Group renew their partnership

25 November 2020

We are delighted to announce that Royal Holloway, University of London, a top 25 UK Higher Education Institution in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, and Study Group, a leading provider of international education, have renewed their existing partnership for a 10-year period.

Since 2011, Royal Holloway and Study Group have effectively collaborated to offer a range of academically rigorous pathway programmes, which enable international students to gain access to high-quality, degree-level study, at the university. The partnership between the two organisations has proven to be extremely successful, with Study Group International Foundation Year students achieving higher average scores than those entering Royal Holloway degree programmes from other external pathway providers.

Over the years, the partnership has evolved to lead transformation in course development, delivery, and the international student experience. Innovations include the introduction of International Year One programmes in Computer Science, Business and Management, Economics and Electronic Engineering, online pre-sessional English Language summer courses and extensive student support provision, which champions an inclusive approach, so that learners studying pathway programmes can fully integrate into student life at Royal Holloway.

At the start of the renewed partnership, Royal Holloway and Study Group are launching a new Pre-Masters Programme intake in March next year, which will include four new academic pathway options: Business and Management, Economics, Computer Science, Electronic Engineering and Information Security, and Social Science, Arts and Humanities. These new pathways enable international students to progress to a broad spectrum of postgraduate courses at the university.

Furthermore, as a result of an intensive collaboration between academic staff at Royal Holloway and Study Group to meet the changing needs of international students as a result of the COVID-19 travel restrictions, a new English Language Module option is now available, to offer direct-entry undergraduate students from outside of the UK the flexibility to start their studies in January 2021.

As James Pitman, Managing Director for the UK and Europe at Study Group, comments:

“We are extremely pleased to have renewed our contract with Royal Holloway, University of London, for a further 10 years. As a result of this strong and enduring partnership, international students have been able to achieve their academic goals and progress to study prestigious and high-ranking undergraduate programmes at Royal Holloway, in a diverse variety of disciplines, from Economics and Engineering, through to arts-based subjects, such as English Literature, Film and Music. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with Royal Holloway, to innovate programme development and delivery, driving successful student outcomes.”

As Alexia Gonzalez, Head of the Study Group International Study Centre (ISC) at Royal Holloway, comments:

“The renewal of the partnership is fantastic news, and would not be possible without the exceptional effort and support of Study Group and Royal Holloway staff. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to make this partnership a lasting success.”

As Professor Paul Layzell, Principal of Royal Holloway, comments:

“2020 has marked a significant new phase in the partnership between Royal Holloway and Study Group and I am very pleased to be signing the updated contract on behalf of the university to reflect all of the developments. This academic year we are launching two major new International Study Centre pathway programmes with Study Group. These programmes offer further routes for international students to access Royal Holloway degrees and students choosing them will be fully supported in their studies by the excellent ISC team and thus well prepared to continue on to and succeed at the university in their chosen subject.

The partnership between Study Group and Royal Holloway was forged almost 10 years ago and I am looking forward to ever more closer working between our organisations in the future.”
