Official Opening of the University of Strathclyde International Study Centre
15 October 2013
On Thursday, 10 October 2013 distinguished guests from the University of Strathclyde and Study Group senior management, centre staff and students joined to celebrate the official opening of the new International Study Centre (ISC).
The invited guests were welcomed to the centre by MD for HE UK and Europe, James Pitman, who paid tribute to everyone who has contributed to the establishment of the International Study Centre. James acknowledged the exciting new partnership between the Times Higher Education UK University of the Year, 2012 and Study Group in providing high quality education opportunities to students worldwide.
The assembled guests, including Principal and Vice Chancellor Sir Jim McDonald, had the opportunity to experience the facilities and life in the centre first-hand and speak to the students about international student life in Glasgow.
The current ISC students vary across a range of nationalities including Chinese, Hong Kong, Bahraini, Korean, Kuwaiti, Nigerian, Omani, Pakistani, Qatari, Saudi and Thai and are evenly split across the two Undergraduate Foundation Programme courses; Business and Social Studies and Engineering and Sciences. We also have students starting the English for Pre-Masters course.
Efrem Jones, Head of Centre, shared his thoughts regarding the opening of the ISC:
‘The new ISC at the University of Strathclyde is an exciting place to work. Linking with an excellent university partner means that we can plan our development jointly so that our students will have the very best chances of success. Even though we are a new ISC, the majority of ours staff have worked in other ISCs or similar organisations and bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience which is helping make this new venture strong, effective and a rewarding place to be for all.’
We’re looking forward to welcoming more students on the Undergraduate Foundation Programme and Pre-Masters our next intake on January 2013.
