Study Group is delighted to announce the new English Language Bridge program for international undergraduate students at the University of Southern Maine
The new English Language Bridge (ELB) program is specifically designed for undergraduate students who meet USM’s admission requirements, but need additional English language support to succeed in their studies.
The program is offered through the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Department at USM, which represents over 30 countries and languages.
Students on the ELB program will meet with an academic advisor who will help them to select the courses they’ll need to study in order to achieve academic success.
Alumnus Michael Collins, Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, described his experience: “USM gave me such a strong foundation. A huge part of an undergraduate education is preparation for making good choices, and USM really prepared me to do that.”
ELB Students will take both ESOL and regular classes during their first semester, or year, at USM. Once the students achieve English language proficiency they will declare their degree program choice, selecting from nearly 100 different majors offered on the Portland and Gorham campuses.
Students who successfully complete the ELB program will progress onto their desired degree at USM.
