8th March is International Women's Day. The theme for 2017 is #BeBoldForChange, an idea Study Group is proud to stand with. Study Group is committed to helping women and girls around the world achieve their ambitions every day, and sometimes that means making bold decisions and taking action.
This is something that Study Group takes seriously with their Building Futures charity, created with Plan International in response to the 2004 Asian tsunami. Since then, Building Futures has worked to provide sustainable educational facilities in nine communities around the world, with a tenth underway.
Each of these projects are chosen with the futures of children, both boys and girls in mind, but the project in the Vahari District of Pakistan had a major impact on the lives of many young girls. In the region, children were having their lessons outside in extreme weather and the lack of boundary walls meant girls especially feared for their safety. In combination with limited access to toilets, this meant that the education prospects of girls in particular were threatened. Building Futures raised money to enable the construction of classrooms, toilets and boundary walls for many schools in the region.
Our continued commitment to building and improving schools will ensure many more girls will benefit and have access to education in years to come.
